The news of Hollow Knight: Silksong’s E3 absence comes via a Reddit post, which shared a Discord message from Matthew “Leth” Griffin, a contractor who handles Team Cherry’s PR. Related: How Dark Souls Is A Metroidvania AND A Roguelike When looking at the trailers and artwork for Silksong, it appears as though many of those aspects will remain just as impressive, if not more so. This applies to virtually every aspect of the game: the combat was well-balanced, its environments were beautiful, and the sound and art design were incredibly unique. Additionally, the first game took roughly four years to release and was extremely well polished because of it. Hollow Knight is the only game Team Cherry has completed thus far, and the fruits of its labor received nearly universal acclaim. Of course, none of this detracts from Hollow Knight: Silksong's potential for greatness when it does arrive. To date, only one trailer exists and information surrounding the game’s plot is fairly minimal. Hollow Knight: Silksong was initially announced in February 2019, and despite how much time has elapsed, development updates have been scant.

As the first game has essentially reached cult classic status among Metroidvania players since it released in 2017, this is sure to be saddening news. Fans of Hollow Knight will unfortunately not be receiving any news about sequel, Hollow Knight: Silksong at E3 2021, a representative of developer Team Cherry has confirmed.
